Police have recovered the decapitated body of a businessman from his shop in Chittagong’s Hathazari upazila.
The body of the trader was recovered from Mandakini village in Ward 4 of Farhadabad union of the upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Azam, 24. He is the freedom fighter of the same area Najab Mohammad Chowdhury. Son of Shamsul Alam. Azam was a grocer by profession.
Farhadabad Union UP member (panel chairman) Ali Akbar confirmed the information.
He said Mohammad Azam was asleep in his shop at night as usual. Later on Wednesday morning, shopkeepers and relatives in the area shouted as he did not open the shop. The matter was reported to the police as he did not respond. Later, the police came and recovered the decapitated body of the deceased from the spot.
Hathazari Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said the doors and windows of the shop were all right. The body was recovered after cutting the tin rice of the shop as the door was not opened from inside.
The belongings and cash box of the mobile phone shop with the deceased Azam are all fine. The money there was not looted. There are marks of injuries on the neck of the deceased. He was strangled to death.
The matter is mysterious, police have launched an investigation. The body was recovered and sent to Chittagong Medical College Morgue for autopsy.
