Laila Begum, wife of Zainuddin of Mudipara village in Dhaljora union of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur, said. He Kaliakair has received an autorickshaw from the upazila administration. When he got the rickshaw, he promised not to beg anymore.
Archana Rani of Chinail area of the same union got a sewing machine. He said, ‘My daughter will do sewing with a sewing machine. I will not reach out to others.
Under the slogan ‘Building a Hunger and Poverty Free Society, At the End of Services and Opportunities’, 12 beggars were provided with 5 beggars as rehabilitation materials under the ‘Beggar Rehabilitation Alternative Employment Program’ organized by Kaliakair Upazila Administration and Upazila Social Service Office on the last afternoon of June. Autorickshaws, a sewing machine and cash are provided.
Also speaking on the occasion were Kaliakair Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamal Uddin Sikder, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Selim Azad, Women Vice Chairman Zaida Nasrin, Kaliakair Upazila Freedom Fighter Former Commander Sahab Uddin and chairmen of various Union Parishads.
Kaliakair Upazila Nirbahi Officer said that an initiative has been taken to help 42 beggars of Dhaljor Union of the upazila to return to work. In the first phase, 12 people were given different materials. Others will be paid at the end of the lockdown. Under that project, Dhaljora Union will be made beggar-free first and the whole upazila will be declared beggar-free in phases.
